Getting Caught Up

This week took off fast and furious! I knew I had a ton of things to get done but my hand was killing me. I have some arthritis in my thumb so when I do too much quilting or hand sewing, or even using the rotary cutter, my thumb gets inflamed and the pain begins. Still, there are deadlines, ya know? Sunday I have a baby shower to go to and so I had to finish this baby quilt - all done now except for sewing on the label. I must admit I sewed the binding on by machine, both sides, not something I usually do. I enjoy hand sewing the binding on but my hand would not allow it. I think it turned out really nice anyway.

Next I had to finish up my Tea Cup Blocks for a monthly swap I am in. I just love these teacups and have posted them before, but this month, and because fall is right here and now, I used this luscious fabric for the cups. Aren't they pretty?
Tomorrow brings me to a special birthday celebration for my Grandson, Riley, who turned 16 on the 18th and my Granddaughter, Macey, who will be 10 on Halloween. Macey had requested I make her a zipper bag so I made this one and plan to fill it full with little surprises meant just for her.

And that concludes this week of sewing. Well, not quite. I finished some coasters to send to my mom to crochet but I will post a picture of those when I get them back. My weekend will be full of sew much fun!

My sister's Surprise Quilt

Well, it was a successful surprise!  We flew to Denver for a visit with my mom.  The weather was fabulous and perfect to get the fall spirits going!   My daughter and her 5 month old baby boy came with us- had his first airplane ride and did great.   No crying or anything.   I'm sure the other passengers were grateful for that too!  LOL
I brought my older sister's surprise quilt for her birthday.   She and her husband were out of town at a BHS (barbershop harmony society) competition.    They left a couple hours before we landed in Denver and got home a couple hours after we left for Texas.   That was a bummer as I would have liked to see them both.   This is what I left on her bed!

I found the original pattern/tutorial for this block here.  It is a great tutorial.   I just kind of made up my borders as I went.   I would do them a bit differently if I make this again but all in all, it is a beautiful quilt.   She was so surprised to come home and find this on her bed.   Red is definitely her favorite color!
I also included a box of color catchers just in case!!!!

Mug Rugs

So, what are your feelings about these little quilts?  I was torn for a long time but have really come to love them and the creative options for them.   Here is one of my new ones.
Just what I needed to inspire my fall flavors.  It is still warm here in Texas so fall seems far away.

Cute Fabric Boxes

Yesterday I saw a post about these cute fabric boxes for thread snips.   After making the first one,

I decided not only are these the cutest thread snippet holders but what a cute little gift box.   So I made this for my grandson to give to his teacher for Halloween.
These were fun and fast to make.   You can find the tutorial for them here.  I hope you enjoy making them as much as I have.

This past week's fun!

I am so excited to show you my newest creations.  These are pictures of the quilting I did on a Comfort of Psalms quilt that will be auctioned off at my church to help raise money for our mission trip to Haiti.   The quilt was made by Peggy Benson.   Just gorgeous, isn't it?

The next bit of fun was another lap quilt for the NPComforts group.   Actually  it was made for the mother of one of our church's members who is home bound.

Next I was in a swap for fall themed potholders.  This is the one I embroidered and made.  Front and back.

Then my youngest daughter came down with a stomach bug and I was forced to watch this little one.

Well, not really forced at all.   We have such fun.   This past weekend Tyler, one of my other grandsons, had a couple baseball games and the weather took on a real "fall" temperature drop.   Lily brought Mr P to the game all decked out in his "keep me warm" hat.    This boy is just too cute!

Well, that's it for now.  I'm off to sew.   Hope you are too.

New Look!

This is a test of my new look on the blog.  So far so good.   I just LOVE my new header and highly recommend Karen Valentine of Valentine Design if you are wanting to upgrade your blog look.   She was able to come up with exactly the look I was wanting.   Please check her out!
